Here are the top MUST KNOW to ferret care.
Ferrets are from the weasel family, they are known as (Mustela putorius furo) and they are a domestic pet. They are different from having a cat or a dog, sometimes they are even more of a chore when they are pets. You will need to know first thing off the bat is that you can not have a ferret in the US States of California or Hawaii. I don’t know why, but I’ll try to find out.
Ferrets come in a variety of colors
Even though there are 4 basic colors that ferrets come in (Brown Ferrets, White Ferrets, Black Ferrets or Mixed Fur Ferret) you’ll notice right away with your pet that they are all different. If you care for your little buddy they can live up to 10 years, but typically between 6 – 7 years following proper ferret care rules. If not they will end up turning on you and stealing all your stuff. Not really, but a happy ferret is a playful ferret.
Male or Female?
Are you going to get a female ferret or a male ferret. Ferrets are sexually dimorphic predators, and the males are bigger than the females. As you can see with my two ferrets below. Female ferrets have 2 or 3 litters per year and they can have between 3 and 7 kits … they are soooo cute! Ferrets are mammals and all mammals breast feed, and they do it for 3 – 6 weeks and will become independent at around 3 months of age. You really don’t need to know this when you decide to have a pet ferret, you will typically buy a ferret from a pet store.
I heard that ferrets smell bad
When you purchase a ferret from a retail store and not a breeder, then you will get you ferret desmellified
